The artwork is titled “The Last War” – this is one of 75 bronze statues that fall under this title. Each of these 75 images is unique and handcrafted. The sculpture represents two individuals who have merged so deeply that together they become a unit. This concept of duality is noticeable in how the piece begins with two separate bodies gradually merging into a single foundation. Both figures stand together on one pedestal, they form a powerful combination, together they symbolize a coherent whole, they are united forever and live side by side for and with each other. The symbolism of the rings encircling and uniting the figures reinforces this interpretation. These rings also embody the deep bond between the two figures, the power of which is always felt to the core of their beings.

Monique De Ceulaer forms figures that arouse emotions of reflection, protection and respect. With self-control, calmness and playfulness she creates works that suggest both youth and maturity. Sometimes she produces dedicated work where the tense facial expressions project fear and aggression. At other times she forms active figures in bronze or polyester. She elevates a world filled with emotions and symbolism.

She portrays her characters in spacious robes that on the one hand refer to Eastern cultures and on the other hand generate an androgynous atmosphere.
