Description
Matt Gondek's “bat” project references his 2022 “Fight Club” series, where he offered a collection that included hand-painted, studded baseball bats paired with an NFT release. Each NFT came with a physical baseball bat that collectors could obtain by “burning” their digital NFT, which meant exchanging their digital artwork for the physical object.
This project was notable because it revealed the different interests between digital art collectors and those who prefer physical works of art. It was an innovative way to bridge the gap between digital and physical artworks and explore the dynamics between these two collecting worlds.
The “Fight Club” project was an expression of Gondek's distinctive style and was in line with his theme of deconstructing popular icons, in this case extended to an interactive and participatory level with the audience. It also highlighted the contemporary intersection between art and technology, particularly the use of NFTs to connect with art lovers in a new way.
