Although Philippe Bertrand is best known today for his beautiful erotic work, he started out as a cartoonist in the tradition of clear line drawings, with his work published in Partisans and L'Idiot International in the early 1970s. During this decade he also collaborated with Zinc and Charlie Mensuel, drawing his first personal comic 'A Cet Instant aux Antipodes' in 1979.

He published his last comic in February 2010. His book 'Le Montespan' is a comic adaptation of Jean Teulé's book 'Le Marquis de Montespan'. He passed away in May 2010 after a long illness.
