2200,00

Expressive sculpture made of hammered and welded copper, constructed from multiple copper plates visibly joined together. The open seams and weld structures are part of the design and give the work a powerful, organic appearance.

The shape refers to a female torso that tapers downwards into an elongated, almost mermaid-like form. The surface displays a warm reddish-brown copper patina with subtle oxidations.

The work fits within the tradition of European metal sculpture from the second half of the 20th century, in which artists experimented with hammered metal plates and welded structures.

Description

Sculptures in hammered copper belong to a tradition in which metal plates are built up into a sculpture by means of hammering, shaping, and welding. Particularly in the second half of the 20th century, many European sculptors experimented with this technique. By combining individual copper plates and leaving the weld seams visible, a powerful, expressive structure is created in which both the material and the craftsmanship remain clearly present.

The warm surface of copper develops a natural patina over time, giving each work its own character.
