Joan Miró i Ferrà was a Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramist who was born on April 20, 1893 in Barcelona, Spain and died on December 25, 1983. He was an important member of the Surrealist movement and is considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. His work is characterized by abstract shapes, vibrant colors and a dreamy quality and is often associated with the European avant-garde. Miro's work was strongly influenced by his Catalan heritage, as well as the work of the Fauvists, Cubists and Surrealists. Throughout his career, he produced an extensive body of work in a variety of media, including paintings, sculpture and ceramics, and his work continues to be widely recognized and celebrated.
