Hans-Peter Haas was born in Stuttgart in 1935. After attending the Waldorf School, he came to the screen printing business of Luitpold Domberger in 1953, where he met Willi Baumeister and became familiar with the then new medium of screen printing. After study trips through Scandinavia, Belgium, France and Switzerland, he founded a screen printing studio in Stuttgart-Münster in 1958. The first artistic serigraphs (screenprints) are made, which are characterized by high-quality craftsmanship and testify to the eagerness to experiment of the printer Haas. In addition to artists from southern Germany such as Max Ackermann, Adolf Fleischmann and Georg Karl Pfahler, artists from home and abroad, including protagonists of American Pop Art and Hard Edge painting, soon came to Haas to print. In 1971, silkscreen prints by Haas were exhibited in the Behr Gallery in Stuttgart, further exhibitions followed, including in Antwerp, Brussels, Cairo, Copenhagen, New York and Tokyo. Haas has lived in Leinfelden-Echterdingen since 1993. He is still active as a screen printer and is appreciated by artists at home and abroad. In 1979 the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart appointed him an honorary member at the suggestion of the then rector Wolfgang Kermer, and in 2008 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on a ribbon for his services to artistic screen printing.
