Geert Jan Jansen was born in 1944 in Aalst. as the son of Johan Jansen, a light engineer at Philips in Eindhoven, also an artist and a collector of works of art in which light plays a role.

Geert Jan Jansen took watercolor lessons at the design institute "During" in Eindhoven, but soon stopped, after which he studied art history at the University of Amsterdam.
As a painter he is self-taught, although he has been drawing and painting since childhood.

Although Geert Jan Jansen has shown with his paintings in the style of other artists (especially the works inspired by Cobra) that he has an excellent sense of color, in his personal oeuvre we often see a limitation of the color palette and he works a lot in the earth colors red and yellow.
