The Bidder – Nest Martens (1925–2024)

€695,00

A man sits hunched over with his eyes closed and hands clasped, as if in a moment of prayer or deep reflection. The earthy tones and powerful brushstrokes bring together silence, surrender, and human vulnerability. "The Prayer" is a compelling portrait that makes peace and spirituality palpable.

Description

Nest Martens (1925–2024) is considered a modern heir to Flemish Expressionism. From an early, Permeke-like visual language, he developed his own highly stylized form language with bold lines and bright color fields. His work balances between abstraction and figuration, often focusing on human figures and their interrelationships, making it a source of continued appeal to both collectors and art lovers.
